All about us

Mary Platt Pre-school was opened in 1963 and we are proud to say it is one of the oldest established pre-schools in Cumbria.  We are Ofsted registered and a member of the Pre-school Learning Alliance.

We offer sessional care and we welcome children from the age of two years and offer the nursery entitlement for three and four year olds which begins the term after their third birthday. We also offer the nursery entitlement to eligible two year olds.

We provide a safe, caring and welcoming environment where our staff to child ratios are at a minimum; one adult to eight children for three and four year olds and one adult to four children for two year olds. This allows us to provide the quality of care and safety which all children are entitled to.

Our Aims

Mary Platt Preschool - Creating a marble run

To provide a safe, caring and happy environment where children can learn through play.

Mary Platt Preschool - Construction table

To provide a service which meets the children’s, families and community’s needs.

Mary Platt Preschool - Mud kitchen

To provide activities and experiences which stimulate development in all aspects of child development and caters for individual needs.

Mary Platt Preschool - Learning about animals

And to be a fully inclusive setting which values diversity and promotes equality.

Key Person System

Every child is allocated a member of staff as their Key Person.
This is based on the initial bond that is made between the child and the staff.

Having a secure and familiar adult aids transition for both children and families.

We use Tapestry Learning Journal to make a record of each child progress and to show families what we have been doing together.

Governance

We are governed by a group of Trustees approved by Ofsted who meet monthly to oversee our work. In September 2018 to move with the times the Mary Platt Methodist Preschool changed their governance from a Charity to a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). This has not changed anything in the preschool including our ‘Good’ status with Ofsted. This has however meant a new charity number for us Reg. Charity No. 117880 and in turn a new Ofsted registration number: 2519649.

Our GOOD status can be found under our old Ofsted number: 317557 now marked as closed on Ofsted’s Website, and will move to our new number when Ofsted do their next inspection. Please feel free to check this information with Ofsted.
